MedicCast TV – Better Than PBS

Posted by David at 14 June, 2010, 9:00 am

Many of you have already heard about (and if you haven’t then you’re about to so pay attention) some of the great portable EMS audio netcasts available on the internet such as the EMS Educast, EMS Garage, EMS Office Hours, and of course the MedicCast. As EMS created media evolved we then saw the rise of The Chronicles of EMS and their online video series. So what’s left?

Portable video netcasts of course.

Thanks to MedicCast TV we have now evolved to that second to the top tier in content. MedicCast TV is available on iTunes, for Zune, and as an RSS Feed. In this episode host Jamie Davis gives his opinion on the Super Sexy CPR video

I think it’s a great format, very similar to Geek Brief TV (minus Cali Lewis and her psychedelic blue screen) for viewers with short attention spans… which is pretty much all of us. I’m subscribed via iTunes, and you should be too!

Some of you may be wondering what I would consider to be the “top tier” for EMS created media. A timely 30-60 minute daily show that offers both audio and video formats (not necessarily streamed live but that’s definitely an option) is truly the current top tier of content for any niche. You may think its going to take awhile before we see that… but I think otherwise… I’d say before the end of the year which gives us something to look forward to. MedicCast TV is definitely a step in that direction.

Be sure to check back tomorrow when I highlight the Super Sexy Abdominal Thrust video and talk about what all the critics seem to be overlooking

#CoEMS Contest: Win An iPad 3G!!!

Posted by David at 8 June, 2010, 9:00 am

I’m an ardent supporter of EMS Professionals taking the proverbial public relations/education bull by the horns and doing what the agencies and multiple organizations that represent the industry continually fail to do effectively. One group of those professionals are the guys over at The Chronicles of EMS. Ted, Justin, and Mark are dedicated to creating compelling educational content for both the industry professional as well as for the average person, and have pitched the series throughout the entertainment industry.

While pitching the series to entertainment executives they received some valuable feedback, specifically that the tagline “The Reality Series” should be changed to something more… entertainy. In order to do that they have turned to the community and are running a Name the Show Contest. Since it’s a contest, there must be some prizes, right? There most certainly are…

The Grand Prize winner wins an iPad 16GB WiFi + 3G AND a round trip flight and accommodations at a future Chronicles of EMS filming location where they will appear in the episode!

Now there are some rules and regulations to the contest, but if you aren’t already a member of the Chronicles of EMS Community, shame on you!

So even if you don’t have a creative bone in your body, but you want to get involved in helping with the success of the project, you can Vote for Chronicles of EMS on OWN TV (which is the Oprah Winfrey Network if you didn’t know) and please be sure to share that voting linking on both Facebook and Twitter.

The Social Media Anthem – New Dork

Posted by David at 11 March, 2010, 9:00 am

The Olympics highlighted one thing for me… everyone needs an anthem.

I think it’s about time we get one for Social Media, although I’m not entirely sure that this should be it simply because it’s more of a spoof than an original piece of work. I’d really like to see an original piece with this sort of hook

EMS1.com Covers The #CoEMS Premiere With A Shotgun

Posted by David at 24 February, 2010, 9:00 am

I’ve always been a fan of EMS1.com for news and insights from the industry, because like most internet connected people I like my media when I want it… which is NOW.

Or maybe later.

It really depends on my mood.

Check out this video coverage on the Chronicles of EMS premiere:

What I really like about that video is their shotgun blast reporting style. Usually when a media outlet reports on a story they focus on one or two individuals. EMS1.com got input from ALOT of people who attended the event.

They even interviewed the video editor.

I think that’s huge… and definitely in the spirit of conversation that spawned the Chronicles of EMS.

An Open Letter To Apple

Posted by David at 9 December, 2009, 9:00 am

Dear Steve,

First off allow me to say that I am glad that you pulled through the transplant surgery as you have. Sure, you could still put some meat on those bones, but at least your moving those bones without the use of an iExoskeleton. I’m also glad to see you’re still rockin’ the black turtleneck.

What I’m writing you about is really of utmost importance. It matters to the citizens of the United States who also happen to be your paying customers that Apple continues to be innovative not just with their hardware, but their software as well. Now that cut & paste exists on the iPhone, there is one glaring hole in the product line.

Emergency notifications.

As you may or may not be aware, New York State is testing an Emergency Notification System through online gaming networks such as the Play Station Network and XBox Live.

THIS is brilliant.

THIS is innovation.

THIS is NOT Apple doing it.

Why not?

Steve, why can’t Apple help to innovate for the Emergency Managers of this country? Why, if someone does an opt-in subscription to receive emergency notifications, can’t iPhones and iPods do the same thing? You put a video camera in them for pete’s sake!

I think this is something Apple needs to look at, and not necessarily leave for third party developers. It’s not about the company. It’s about innovation in the best interest of the customer.

Thanks for your consideration in this matter.

Sincerely Getting A Droid Only Because AT&T Sux,

Dave

The $2000 iPhone Halloween Costume

Posted by David at 30 October, 2009, 9:00 am

I loved Halloween as a kid. I was Boba Fett two years in a row, because that was back before Darth Vader was cool (or on Twitter). I also went through a period of my mother’s homemade costumes just like everyone else I know.

Those homemade costumes cost $30 or less. Reko Rivera and John Savio spent over $2000 and 2 years to make their costumes:

Working iPhone costumes. What’s next? I almost don’t want to know… unless it is a working Master Chief costume.

I’d buy that one.

Hitler Hates NBC’s Trauma Too

Depending on where you work this video may be Not Safe For Work

This is actually a series of videos that appear on YouTube featuring actor Bruno Ganz in a scene from the 2004 film Der Untergang (The Downfall) with the original dialogue intact but the subtitles changed to create a new story. The practice has been viral since 2008.

@EHillCNN Gives Grammar In Blogging A Bad Name #AC360

Posted by David at 3 September, 2009, 9:00 am

I think that I consume news a little bit differently than most others. Besides the usual activities of showering, shaving, and getting dressed, my morning routine includes updating the Podcasts on my iTunes and syncing my iPod. On the drive into work, I “listen” to podcasts of the news shows from the night before. My first “listen” of the day, and the one I tend to be the biggest fan of, is AC360 with Anderson Cooper and his co-anchor Erica Hill.

One of the things that separates CNN from the other professional news networks is their full on embrace of the power of Social Media. As a network they took on Ashton Kutcher to see who would reach a million followers on Twitter first, and although they lost their use of Social Media is prevalent in the majority of their shows. One of the things that AC360 does is a “Live Blog From The Anchor Desk” where I came across this doozy Friday night…

ac360_blogs_cnn_com_2009_08_28_live-blog-from-the-anchor-desk-82809_erica_hill_poor_grammar

It’s bad enough that most e-mails have become devoid of capitalization and punctuation, but when I see a “journalist” post something like this which is representative of her abilities as a professional I cringe.

Literally.

The shift key is not that hard to hit and her lackadaisical approach to using correct grammar sends the wrong message. Correct grammar and spelling should be used in not only official reports or stories, but in all blog posts and comments as well. Failure to do so is not only lazy but indicates a level of incompetence in monitoring the quality of your own work.
