In honor of today being National Coffee Day, I decided to do a little write-up on Dunkin’ Donuts brand new product called the Dunkin’ Donuts To Go Bar. It’s addressing the recent craze of cramming a meal into a bar. What really stood out about this was the flavor, Original Roast. I saw them the first day they were released, and since no one else had bought one yet obviously I grabbed one in that vain Internet attempt to yell FIRST!
What immediately struck me as odd about the Dunkin’ Go Bar is the white frosting drizzle on top. For some reason it just seemed WAY out of place for a healthy coffee flavored meal bar. The bar is chewy to the bite and a bit bland to the initial taste. At first I was all like “where’s the coffee?”, then on the third bite it drops that “Original Roast” coffee flavor on your tongue like a two-ton granola sledgehammer.
The aftertaste of this bar was horrendously long lasting. I finished the entire thing and an hour later was still dealing with the “Original Roast” aftertaste. I’m all for flavorful granola bars, but that long lasting after taste makes it’s appeal to me rank right up there with broccoli flavored ice cream… meaning I’ll never touch another one again.
Until they release “French Vanilla“… because let’s be honest… I’m a creature of habit.
So, I hope you have a great granola free National Coffee Day!
