Yesterday Halo 5‘s BETA for Warzone Firefight went live at around 1:00pm EDT. This is the much anticipated player co-operative game type on a Warzone map against waves of Non-Player Characters (NPCs). Aside from some dedicated server failures, scores not showing up, and kills not counting towards in game commendations early in the day by last night it was playing as if it was a shipped product.
More importantly the play was AMAZING.
I don’t really blog too often about the game, but I figured this may be the best place to put these 7 strategies for Halo 5’s Warzone Firefight BETA:
1) Cooperate With Your Team
One of the greatest things about this game type is that all the time put into customizing your Spartan is in it’s full glory. Aside from Arena Free-For-All, there is no other game type that let’s you show your Spartan‘s true colors. Despite this, it’s important to remember that you are still a team. You’ll win and lose as a team, so if someone’s going to call the strategy try to cooperate. If there’s no one calling the strategy, then maybe you should if you have a mic.
2) Hit The Early Waves Hard
Just as in regular Warzone you will increase your REQ level the more you kill. The first two waves are usually relatively low-level soft enemies, but don’t sit around. The clock is still ticking and you should be using the opportunity to come out with as high a REQ level as possible. The best I’ve made is Level 3 by the end of the first round, but I’m pretty awful despite playing the game a lot. Figure you want to be Level 5 no later than the start of the 3rd round.
3) Use Your Grenades
Use. Your. Grenades. During the Halo Live Stream previewing Warzone Firefight they mentioned that there was finally a use for the Scout Warthogs… using them to splatter the low level enemies. Honestly, I wasn’t as successful with that as I was with a well placed grenade. Covenant troops drop out of carriers and are usually grouped up when touching down, making them easy targets for a well placed and timed grenade. When Prometheans warp in there is usually only a few, but in short order they are going to warp in a huge gaggle and that makes them ripe for the splatter damage.
4) Defend The Garage Round Is The Toughest
There are a mix of different objectives throughout Warzone Firefight, each game randomizing an objective for the round. There’s everything from destroying a certain enemy, to killing 5 or 6 bosses that have dropped simultaenously, and a defend the Garage round similar to Warzone Assault. Defending the Garage has been, in my experience, the toughest round to crack. Seriously consider deploying a Plasma Caster and just lopping stuff in and DO NOT ignore the Phaetons that come in above the Garage. For that matter, get them out of play as soon as you can… just don’t ignore the Garage entirely.
5) Kill The Watchers
In regular Warzone the Watchers that warp in are usually more of an annoyance than anything. Here in Warzone Firefight they serve the very real purpose of not only erecting shields to protect the bosses, but they regenerate EVERYBODY. The screenshot above shows the Watcher basically healing up a Crawler after it took a hit or two. What was once reserved for the Warden is now every Promethean‘s privilege.
6) Use Big Guns On Big Enemies
Bosses are bad. Legendary bosses are badder. The new Mythic Bosses are seriously badass. Don’t be afraid to whip out the big guns early on though. Even if you wipe out all the lower level NPCs, as long as the boss is there more of them will show up. Hopefully you can hit REQ level 6 by the fourth round, otherwise getting those hard to get kills on Legendary and Mythic bosses will be a real challenge indeed.
7) Go For The Bosses
Along the same lines as #6, take advantage of the opportunity and go for the bosses. Considering a typical Warzone game only has 3 or 4 Legendary Boss opportunities. With the opposing team trying to get the kill too, it can definitely be challenging. Take advantage of the co-op situation to go after what you don’t already have. When I started playing Warzone Firefight I still needed 29 Legendary Boss kills. By very early this morning I was able to get those kills and complete my Warzone Mastery Commendation after 23 games… and trust me… I have a 0.6 KDA for Warzone… so I’m really not that very good.
BONUS 8) Have Fun
The most important part is to have fun, of course. Get some great clips and screenshots to show off and once the BETA concludes then we can look forward to playing the game type on a map OTHER than Escape From A.R.C. which is where the BETA seems to be living.
Just for kicks… here’s a clip from a recent game where I pounded the Warden…
Feel free to let me know what you think or your own strategies in the comments.
Have a great BETA weekend!
