With the spring season officially (at least according to the calendar) in effect, it’s time to see the new seasonal offerings from all of our favorite fast food restauranteurs. This is also usually the time where we see a changing of the croissant donut at Dunkin’ Donuts. Last year we were treated to the Strawberry Shortcake Croissant Donut, but this year there is a new offering being injected into the typical two-month cycle of Croissant Donuts. I was able to finally catch this season’s offering, the Delightful Peanut Butter Croissant Donut, in the wild.
This is probably to most un-delightful Croissant Donut of them all. It has the seemingly standard glaze topped with a chocolate drizzle, the creme inside is a pale mocha color that provides a powerful bland chemical taste with an ever so slight peanut butter aftertaste. To describe it as underwhelming would be a definite understatement.
I know Dunkin’ Donuts is trying to brand this as a perfect pairing with their bold cold brew blend ice coffee, but this is not a spring time flavor combination that works. More importantly it underwhelms from the onset and reminds you that there isn’t actually any peanut butter in there… just simply a host of chemicals mixed to trick your tastebuds into thinking the creme is nutty in nature. While the previous flavors were also undoubtedly chemical mixtures, they at least hid that fact from the palette well.
Here’s the nutritional info for the absolutely un-delightful Peanut Butter Croissant Donut:
