It’s no big secret, or at least it shouldn’t be, that Community Paramedicine and Mobile Integrated Healthcare have become the new favorite buzzwords in the EMS world. There are some really great programs already out there, such as in Wake County in North Carolina, Eagle County in Colorado, Robinsdale in Minnesota, and the newest foray being in Fort Worth in Texas. So what about New York City in New York?
While the slow cogs of the bureaucracy churn there are some forays into the area. You have to start somewhere, right?
Here’s an NPR report about a program being run by Mt. Sinai Medical Center. You may recognize one of the people…
Overall I think this shows that we are at a great starting point… but it is a starting point.
There are however a few points that I want to clear up. I’m still an EMT, I still ride the bus, and I don’t run the company but rather a garage that belongs to the company. Otherwise it was a pretty accurate, or as accurate as four minutes allows, explanation of the project.
And yeah, I said “bus”… because I am “that” guy too!
