I recently had the great displeasure of being forced into a Seven-Bucks-A-Cup for one of their Sangria Teavana Refreshers. When I walked in, sweat dripping from my brow and shirt drenched, I smacked with the notion that fall had indeed arrived…
The horror of pumpkin once again taking over the world has haunted me for nearly a week. Then yesterday I walked into a relatively new Dunkin’ Donuts during my travels and found that there is a new fall flavor to be reckoned with… apple. Specifically, Dunkin’ has released their fall flavored Caramel Apple Croissant Donut!
For TOO long pumpkin has dominated the fall season often relegating apple to a tertiary, if not secondary, flavor choice. Finally apple is getting the attention it deserves!
The donut continues to be glazed, but atop the glaze is a caramel flavored drizzle. The apple filling is sweet with a bite of cinnamon. Encased in the flaky croissant pastry, this could easily be considered an upgrade to the traditional hand held classic apple pie. If it weren’t for the glaze and caramel drizzle, I would look to pop it into one of the convection ovens for a few seconds and get that experience.
Surprisingly, for all the sweetness and taste, the Caramel Apple Croissant donut is weighing in at 350 calories…
…dethroning the Lemon Croissant Donut as the new Lightweight Champion of the Flavored Croissant Donut World!!!
So if you’re like myself and are tired of the tyrannical reign of pumpkin during the fall season, go out and get a Caramel Apple Croissant donut today!
