Happy #EMSWeek! Announcing The #99Cent Sale

May 18, 2014 By Dave Konig Leave a Comment

Happy EMS Week! This year’s theme is “Dedicated. For Life.” As part of the celebration I’m running a 99 Cent Sale on the following ebooks for the duration of EMS Week to celebrate:

Pride_of_Hills_CoverThe Pride of the Hills: A Vollie’s Memoir – Lace up the boots with an authentic 20-year EMS volunteer in one of the world’s biggest Emergency Medical Service systems, New York City. Beginning with a bumpy start in the service, through to those teenage rebellion years as a new provider running on calls for help, and culminating to a point of maturity often never reached in an industry infamously known for eating its enthusiastic young with an astronomically high burnout rate to prove it.
Regularly $4.99; On Sale For $.99 at Amazon for Kindle

25 Things They Should Have Taught You In Medic School… But Didn’t – Going to school to become an Emergency Medical Technician or and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic can often seem like a long and arduous process. Unfortunately, not everything that should be taught is taught. While reasons may vary from class to class, there are important aspects that just don’t get the amount of time they deserve. This book looks to address some of the things that just can’t be covered in class, but really should be. The book includes 25 chapters on things every Medic, whether just thinking about signing up for class or graduated way back when, needs to know.

and Kobobooks.com for Kobo

ems blogging e-book cover300The Official Guide To Blogging For EMS – One of the biggest challenges facing the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is being able to communicate with the public about what EMS is and what we can or cannot do. For years we have relied heavily on the media to help educate the public about our services. Sometimes they got it right, but most times there were half-truths or missing facts in the story.

Now media itself is seemingly under the gun. Whereas newsrooms used to have hundreds of employees, their staffing is being reduced as print circulation, radio listening, and television views are being replaced by online publications, podcasts, and online video. If they weren’t able to accurately tell our story when they were at full staff, what makes us think that they can tell it now with their own manpower shortages?

Communicating with and educating the public about EMS is something that we need to accept and own ourselves. We need to tell our own story, to communicate our own value, and place ourselves in the minds of the public as we want to be seen. Blogging can help us achieve all that, and more.

Valuing EMS Professionals Like Firefighters

Yesterday an editorial column appeared in The Chief, the long time propaganda machine dedicated to civil servants in the New York City region.
