Quick History Lesson
National Doughnut Day was originally celebrated by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. Although there have been some myths regarding the naming of the “doughnut”, because during World War I the soldier’s were often called Dough Boys, that’s really just a myth. The earliest reference was in an 1809 by Washington Irving describing the confection in A History of New York.
