Yesterday morning I went to Dunkin’ Donuts with getting one of their Croissant Donuts in my mind… only to find out that they had none. I didn’t really think much of it… but when I went for my afternoon ice coffee at a completely different Dunkin’ Donuts in a completely different borough they also, surprisingly, had none. That Dunkin’ Donuts admitted to having not received them in a few days.
So the question becomes… despite being popular enough at launch to become a “permanent menu item“… has Dunkin’ Donuts quietly retired the Croissant Donut???
Is this retirement permanent??? Now I’ll be honest… I did enjoy the Croissant Donut immensely, but there was only one thing that after awhile I could have done without and that resulted in me making it a monthly instead of weekly treat.
For me, glazed donuts are okay. They aren’t terrible but at the same time are nowhere near being better than sliced white bread. This is why the Dunkin’ Donuts French Cruellers have also had a hard time staying on my morning routine. However, a local bakery who does French Cruellers with chocolate frosting has earned my business by the dozen on more than one occasion in a month.
A Croissant Donut with a frosting instead of a glaze would certainly be more favorable to my palate and would refresh the product line. There is also the potential for Croissant Dounts with fillings, such as jelly or Bavarian Creme. Boston Creme Croissant Donut anyone? Uh, yeah!!! I’ll take three of THOSE!!! The possibilities, like with the regular donut or standard croissant, are endless… and they should start taking advantage of that.
If they have quietly slid the Croissant Donut out to pasture the opportunities they are missing out on are immense and that’s just a damn shame.
So… have you seen the Croissant Donut lately? If so, let me know in the comments…
