I received absolutely horrible, terrible, and world shattering news this weekend that has caused me great emotional pain and mental distress.
This? This?? THIS???
Has devastated me.
The Forest Hills Sizzler and I have had a long history filled with fond (and some not so fond) memories. I distinctly remember standing on a line for what seemed like DAYS with my parents when the Sizzler first opened in the early 1980s in order to try it out. I remember that first night in the western themed restaurant where I was introduced the most amazing side ever… Cheesy Toast.
Now I know… I know… you’re going to be all “but that’s Texas Toast!”… and you’re right… but back then we didn’t actually know that’s what it was called. So we just called it Cheesy Toast. And it was gooooooood….
Ever since then… throughout the years… Sizzler has been a bit of a staple for me… a place where holidays were observed ( as noted in Chapter 14: Reaper Makes Three in my book The Pride of the Hills: A Vollie’s Memoir*), achievements were celebrated, and memories were made with good toast and great friends. It was a place where, after the darkest and coldest day, I could go and be comforted with a piece of bread that rekindled the same sense of optimisim and wonder that I had in my youth.
Well… all that and the $8.99 salad bar that featured hot food was a damn good deal.
There is only one thing that can make this better. Only one thing can possibly come close to replacing the absolute bottomless pit that Sizzler closing has left in my very soul.
Golden Corral needs to come to Forest Hills.
It needs to come NOW!!!
