Today is February 2nd! Do you know what that means? Today is Groundhog’s Day!!!
This morning at 7:25am Puxsutawney Phil, the seer of seers, saw his shadow and prognosticated that there would indeed be 6 more weeks of winter. Unlike last year, this is a totally believeable prediction considering the amount of sheer snow, ice, and the lakes of slush that I’ve had to trudge through this morning.
I’m often asked why Ground Hog’s Day is my absolute favorite holiday throughout the year. It has absolutely nothing to do with the movie of the same name, although it does star Bill Murray and I do like it.
I think it’s the combination of both the acute lack of commercialism for the day and that it assumes an oversized rodent has some sort of magical power that makes it so darn appealing to me. I mean really, can you think of any other day when a magical furry animal is the sole focus of the celebration? Yeah… me neither. If there was a Unicorn’s Day or a Dragon’s Day you know darn well I would be ALL OVER THAT!!!
So, despite looking forward to six more weeks of snow, ice, and freezing temperatures… have a HAPPY GROUND HOG’S DAY!!!
