Today is February 2nd! Do you know what that means? Yes, I know, it’s “Super Sunday” when the Denver Broncos will face the Seattle Seahawks in Rutherford, New Jersey for the coveted Lombardi Trophy. However there is something more important and longer lasting than that going on today.
Today is Groundhog’s Day!!!
This morning at 7:25am Puxsutawney Phil, the seer of seers, saw his shadow and prognosticated that there would indeed be 6 more weeks of winter. Ugh. Really Phil? Really?? Sadly although today’s forecast is a balmy 40 degrees, the rest of the week doesn’t look as good. Six more weeks of this? That’s just downright depressing. Between the cold of the Polar Vortex, the snow storms of various accumulations, and the general overcast nature of this winter it feels like the worst one in years. All we need is a Nor’Easter to be the cherry on the top and make this the most miserable winter of them all. Although I can’t blame Phil, because ultimately he is prognosticating and not controlling the weather, it doesn’t make the news any easier to hear.
Phil has been forecasting the length of winter since 1887, far outpacing this recent (from his perspective) “Super Bowl” phenomenon. While Phil did not outright indicate it, because the seer of seers needs to maintain neutrality in all things pig (and therefore pigskin), seeing his shadow is also a prediction for the Denver Broncos to be winners of the game. Had he NOT seen his shadow, that would have been an indication that the Seattle Seahawks would have been triumphant in soaring over their opponents and blocking the sun.
Alas poor Seattle, it is just not to be.
