The other day I was cruising through Amazon and was checking out a few Amazon Author Pages to get some ideas on how to improve my own Author Page. I noticed in the right hand upper corner that there was a new link that said “E-mail me when there are new releases by (INSERT AUTHOR NAME HERE)” on most of the pages. Then when I went to mine, I had that same link! So,of course, I clicked it. Now anytime I have a new release, I am hoping Amazon will be sending an e-mail out to whoever else has clicked it (probably no one but myself at this point) so they know I have something new out.
This is on one hand pretty cool, and on the other hand a little annoying. It’s cool for authors who don’t necessarily have websites or have created e-mail lists. It’s a little annoying for people like myself because I have an e-mail list, and people who click that link will only find out about new Amazon releases.
It’s really a mixed bag in my opinion, partially because I see it as a forking of an e-mail list and partially because I haven’t quite seen it in action yet. If at the end of the day it provides the author with more exposure and a possible Kindle book sale for free, then I’m all for it.
