The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has released the following clip from Trooper Martin’s dashboard cam relating to the incident on May 24:

Here are just some random thoughts about this clip that does NOT contain the initial confrontation between Trooper Martin and Paramedic White:

  • From what I can see, it takes 13 seconds for Trooper Martin to come up on the rear of the ambulance.
  • Assuming the ambulance was traveling 40 MPH, then Trooper Martin would have been traveling at approx 60 MPH.
  • If that’s true, then according to this physics forum posting then it is highly probably that the driver EMT Franks could not hear the siren.
  • It is 5 seconds after the ambulance swerves around the car on the right of the road does it engage its brake lights and pull over to the right which does not seem extravagant or excessive to me.

The OHP still continues to circle their wagons around Trooper Martin by not releasing the full unedited video. One has to wonder what exactly it is that they are hiding?

It turns out that DA Max Cook knows, and he sent a letter to Col. Van Guillotine of the OHP. In that letter he describes Trooper Martin’s “handling of the situation was inappropriate from the onset.” You can read the full letter thanks to the Okemah News Leader.

Trooper Martin and his attorney have called a press conference for Monday. They will in all likelihood make a statement trying to explain away his actions as an effect of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from his tours of duty in Iraq. While I can understand this issue personally, I still find myself unable to give Trooper Martin a free pass because of his PTSD. Had myself or any of my co-workers who also suffer from the same disorder performed such blatant physical abuse we would have been arrested without hesitation.

Let’s hope that he gets the help he needs, and does not bring undeserved scrutiny to returning veterans and others suffering from PTSD if that is indeed the case.
