It has become a common act of courtesy to Follow those who Follow you on Twitter. I do this with my own Twitter account, mainly because it is courteous but also because I want to hear what those following me have to say. I think that if someone wants to hear what I have to say, it’s only fair that I listen to what they have to say.

If I find myself following a spam account that provides no real value to me, I have no problem removing them to cut down on the noise. But what about those who remove me from their list while I still follow them?

twitter_following_profileThere is a very easy way to make sure that the people you are listening to because they wanted to hear what you had to say are in fact still listening to you. Simply log in to Twitter and click the link of the people that you are Following.

This will provide you with a list, 20 per page, of the people that you are currently following on Twitter. The list has their avatar, their name, and provides you with the option of removing them from your list. It also provides you with the option to send them a Direct Message.

The only way you can send someone a Direct Message on Twitter is when they are following you. So simply scroll through the list, and those who you see with an option to send a Direct Message are people listening to what you have to say and those who you see without an option to send a Direct Message are people who have stopped listening to you. If you want to stop listening to their pontifications, just simply click the Remove button on the right side. Go through the list once a month to identify those who have stopped listening to you.

Do with them as you wish…
