Recently there was an article about a correction made in a report that had ranked Boston first in the per person cost for Fire and EMS services. The correction dropped Boston to second place and propelled San Francisco to the most expensive first place.
EMS seems to always be based on numbers. The cost per person a municipality is spending on EMS Services. The number of 4X4s on an ambulance. The number of calls a crew responds to. The number of transports a crew does. Numbers, numbers, and more numbers.
Alot of time I worry that we forget there are people behind those numbers. People who’s lives have been changed from illness or worse. I worry that the numbers take precedence over the real reason we do this job.
Changing lives for the better.
